Introduction: The 6th Africa Materials Research Society biennial Conference was held in picturesque Victoria Falls, in western Zimbabwe December 11-16, 2011. The Conference focused on six broad materials research themes (noted below), including some of special interest to Africa. The Conference also provided an opportunity for policy, education and networking dialogue, and helped define challenges and future priorities for materials research and development. There was strong regional student participation.
Closing comments: The Conference was very informative, invigorating and enjoyable for the over 300 participants who registered and attended. At the end of the Conference it was announced by the Africa MRS Board that the next (7th) Africa MRS Biennial Conference would be held in Addis Ababa in late 2013 or early 2014. It was also announced that Prof. Mona Marei (Alexandria University, Egypt) would be the next President of the Society, and that Teketel Yohannes Anshebo (Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia) would be the next Conference Chair.
