Travel - There are several flights per day to Victoria Falls from Johannesburg, South Africa (e.g. see photo below) as well as several other cities in Africa (including Harare, Zimbabwe). One can also fly into Livingston, Zambia just across the Zambezi river from Victoria Falls. You would likely need another visa for Zambia if you chose this route.
Arrivals - Most flights arrive between noon and mid-afternoon. We will have transportation help (and a big Africa MRS sign) available for you at the airport to bring you to the hotel for airport arrivals from Saturday through Wednesday. Please send us your arrival and departure times. Helping with arrivals will be Cain Bure: +263 772 636 800; cain.bure@gmail.com
Visa - Most visitors are required to obtain a visa for entry into Zimbabwe. Visa's can be obtained at the border (upon entry) for citizens of many countries, or in advance from a consulate or embassy. If you plan to go to Botswana or Zambia for local tourism (e.g. Chobe National Park), it will likely be less expensive to get a double entry visa when you enter Zimbabwe the first time.
Health - Anti-mallaria pills are suggested for most visitors. Please consult with an appropriate health professional (and this CDC website or an equivalent) before you travel to consider vaccines and and other medications. International visitors will need to obtain a shot for Yellow Fever if traveling from other sub-Saharan countries that are north of Zimbabwe. Taking these advance precautions, along with bringing and using a good sunscreen and insect repellent, should help ensure a successful travel experience in this beautiful locale. Physician services will be available on-site as well as in the town should anything unexpected occur.
Clothing - Conference dress will be casual. December usually is quite warm in Victoria Falls, with alternating rain and sun. We suggest a mix of summer clothes, rain outerwear, as well as light pants and a long sleeve shirt for use on long walks to help shield yourself. A light jacket or sweater might be needed for a late evening or early morning weather. Light summer shoes/sandles, as well as boots or rain shoes if it rains, are advisable.
Please check back periodically for additional information. We also encourage you to consult travel books, online websites, and travel professionals.
